I’ve drunk a lot of protein shakes in my time, and while this wasn’t my first time drinking Muscle Milk, it was my first time returning to it since the rebrand. I appreciate the efforts that the brand is making to stand out as a healthy and tasty option in an otherwise crowded market.
I like to refrigerate my protein shakes, and, while the label didn’t have any instructions regarding this, I stuck it in the refrigerator during my workout. I actually quite preferred the drink this way. It was a cold and refreshing option to come back to from the gym.
The shake itself was good. It has a very strong vanilla flavor that can be quite the sweet treat after a long workout. There’s a touch of that protein powder flavor that seems to be in all protein alternatives, but, all in all, it masks quite well. Vanilla is easily my favorite flavor to get a protein shake in. I don’t love the taste of stevia, and I don’t see it as that much of an improvement upon added sugars, but I think this shake would be much duller without it. It’s a great tasting drink, even if not the most unique.
I love that Muscle Milk is changing their packaging to be more transparent and their ingredients to be more of what customers are looking into, but I wish that these policies would carry over into the product itself and allow the drink to be more stand-outish. A great taste, but not that differentiable to someone who’s tried a lot of protein shakes.
I was gifted this product by Influenster and Muscle Milk in exchange for my honest review.
