I was driving home from work on a sweltering summer day and swung by the gas station for a cold, refreshing drink to quench my thirst and cool me down. I was planning on going with my tried and true, Propel, but the Gatorade Water caught my eye. Sometimes Propel is too sweet, or doesn't quite hit the spot. But this? This sounded terrifically refreshing. It says it's supposed to be "alkaline", which is a gimmick, but most alkaline water I've had tasted crisp and refreshing. What could go wrong?
Everything. This tastes like Gatorade bottled up some water from a rusty tap behind a dumpster and threw some salt (not even like... basic salts, but like... preservative salts...) in it. Then one of their PR reps saw an article about how "alkaline is all the rage". They pH'd their tepid tap water and realized it was sitting at a 6.2. "No worries!" said the PR rep. "We'll just add baking soda until it's alkaline!" So they stirred in some heaping spoonfuls of baking soda until the pH hit 7.5, said goodnight, and went back to focusing on their sugar-filled money-makers instead.
So, if you want an overpriced bottle of baking soda-flavored water: this is for you! Otherwise, I'd just stick with the tap water.
